Gift Tips & Ideas for All of Us

If you’ll be attending a Thanksgiving dinner or event, you may want to come bearing seasonal gifts for your host or hostess, even if they are family!

Take a festive table setting. Arrangements can include cookies of pilgrims, pumpkins, ears of corn, colorful fall leaves and more. Makes a beautiful centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table.

Also, don’t forget the pumpkin! Take a pumpkin dish, such as; pumpkin cheesecake, stuffed pumpkin, spicy pumpkin corn soup, pumpkin nut bread and of course that holiday essential, pumpkin pie!

Of course we all want to be sure to get the best price on the item we purchase.  Most people are just too busy to run from store to store to ‘price check’ but thanks to today’s technology, that doesn’t have to be done!

Even if you want to purchase the item in-store, many retailers have websites with most of their product line and prices listed. This is the easiest way to determine the best deal ahead of time.  In doing so, you’ll save yourself precious hours and gas by making one focused trip instead of a few!

I know, no animals as gifts, right?  Well, My Pet Fish Soap are okay to give! It looks like Goldfish swimming in a bag.  This is a plastic fish embedded in clear, vegetable based glycerin soap shaped like “water in a bag”.

After enough washings, a toy pet fish is the reward!  Great for kids (ages 3 and over)

As tempting as it may be to give an animal to someone whom you know would love to have a pet, it’s really not a good idea.

Animals are not toys. They require love and attention and a lifetime of proper care, and it is unfair to both the animal and the gift recipient if that responsibility is suddenly imposed on them.  If you have already discussed the idea with the prospective recipient at length, and you know that they have the time, willingness, ability, and resources to properly care for an animal and make such a serious commitment, you should consider giving them a gift certificate from the local animal shelter and going with them to adopt their new companion.

It is always best for the potential new pet owner to choose their companion themselves.

No matter what the reason is, birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc., the anticipation of buying a gift can be exciting and even a bit stressful.  Here are a few basic guidlines to follow to help ease that anxiety:

  • Begin early -  Start brainstorming as soon as you can and then once you have the perfect gift idea, go get it!  Waiting until the last minute can leave you with little to choose from and more stress than you expected.
  • Decide on a Budget Ahead of Time – This will help you determine what to get and will also keep your wallet in check!
  • Don’t Put a Price Tag on It – Remember, the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart.  It is true, it’s not the gift as much as it is the thought or meaning behind the gift.
