Valentine’s Day Gift Etiquette – You’ve Been Together For a Few Months

If you’ve been dating for a few months, chances are the expectation for a decent Valentine’s day gift is going to be pretty high. However, that isn’t always the case.

To find out, simply mention that since valentine’s day is coming up, you thought it would be nice to plan something for that day. How the person reacts to the idea of spending Valentine’s Day together is a good litmus test for a budding relationship. It may be an important occasion for your sweetie …or it may be perceived as just another commercial holiday – Just another day on the calendar. If your opinions differ, try to compromise out of respect for each other.

As for a gift, give something meaningful but not inappropriately extravagant. Giving a gift that the two of you can enjoy together — tickets to an event, a night away together — can guarantee more shared good times ahead.

  1. My husband and I ceased celebrating V-day years ago…it has just become so much of a hallmark holiday. However, we just recently began celebrating it again.

The rule is that we have to handmake eachother valentines…no card shops. Anything goes in the making of the valentine, but it has to be totally hand made by the giver. V-day just doesn’t mean anything if you are reading a card with someone else’s words that 10,000 other people are going to be recieving :]

I was just about to post about this – how once you’ve been together for a while it seems to fade.
That’s awesome that you brought the spark back and made a rule for the gifts to be handmade! Cool idea!
